Girls basketball took the win over University High School. Isys Grady had a massive game and recorded a triple double with 17 points, 14 Rebounds and 10 assists. Jymea Jackson scored 13 points. Next game we face Monteverde (Mount-verd) on Saturday.

Yesterday, the girls soccer team finished up 2020 on a strong note with a 6-0 win over Crescent City. Scoring for the Bucs were Isabella Castillo with 3 goals and an assist, Shelby Lecates had a goal and an assist, and Gianna Corbin and Tegin Johnston also added a goal each. Ava and Annabelle Dougherty also each had an assist, and Cat Goodwin had just one save in goal. Great game yesterday by the girls.

Seniors, today is the last day for Senior Superlative Nominations. Please find the nomination form in the email sent to you by Mrs. Scheuerman and the QR code posted around campus.

SGA is proud to sponsor the first ever Buccaneer Holiday Extravaganza today. This will work the same as the virtual pep rally. A link will be sent later today for teachers to view with their 7th period students, when the announcement is made. We will follow the same activity bell schedule used for the virtual pep rally and film fest.

Students who are taking dual enrollment classes at Daytona State during the Spring term that begins in January must email their Mainland school counselors the course enrollment confirmation they received from Daytona State to ensure second semester schedules are correct. If you have already received confirmation and have not yet sent that your Mainland counselor, please do that right away!

ATTENTION SENIORS: ANY student graduating in December and wanting to enroll in college in the Spring, must have their FFAA application completed by December 31. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this application deadline. Students must meet the scholarship requirements in effect for the academic year in which they graduate. Service hours completed by high school graduation and test scores for test dates through January 31 will be considered in a mid-year graduate’s Final Evaluation. A student’s Final transcript evaluation MUST include a graduation date. Calling all creative writers, film makers, actors: Are you interested in submitting a short film for the Buccaneer Short Film Festival? This festival’s theme is Candyland. Film

needs to be school appropriate, 6 minutes or less in length, candy must be the focal point or incorporated in film and film must be submitted with a movie poster and summary paragraph of film. Films must be submitted by Friday, January 29. Questions? See posters in the hallways for more information.

Congrats to the Mainland wrestling team who continued their home winning streak last night against Deltona 48-30 with pins coming from sophomore Brian Harris, Juniors Josh Rodgers and Nico Rivera, Seniors Devin Dorton and Jordan Colubiale. Junior Heath Hilado and senior Isaias Miranda Davila also had tough wins on the night. Join us Wednesday, January 6th for our home match against Matanzas as we try to move our streak to 8 wins in a row.

Congrats to the Mainland wrestling team for their tough fought victory over Sebastian River Monday night 34-33. Senior Jordan Colubiale and Junior Brady Howe both went undefeated on the day, beating state qualifiers from Treasure Coast as well. Join us tonight at 7 pm for our match against Deltona.

SGA would like to thank all those that donated items for the homeless in our community. Our school collected over 1,800 items and were able to make over 135 kits!! The winner of the holiday sweets party for the classroom competition for most items collected is…….Mrs. Mandell! Congratulations! And thanks to all the classes that participated!

Tuesday, December 15

Girls basketball won two games over the weekend and are now 6-0. On Saturday, Isys Grady had 23 points. Hailee Brennen 14 points and 10 rebounds. Next game is tonight vs Sandalwood High School in Jacksonville.

Congratulations to the girls wrestling team at Saturday’s tournament. A few girls were out but the team still placed 8th of 19 teams with freshman Cheyenne Wigley placing 3rd, Junior Naomi Bankard 4th, freshman Trinya Tillman 4th, and sophomore JahMya Hill 4th. We’ll have a home match Wednesday against Deltona at 7pm.

Last Friday night, the girls soccer team got a come from behind 3-1 win over the Pierson Taylor Wildcats. Scoring from Mainland was Isabella Castillo, Kassie Stoner, and Ava Dougherty. Annie Dougherty helped out with 2 nice assists, as did Kassie Stoner with one assist. Cat Goodwin did a very good job in goal and made 4 saves. The girls also played last night in a match against the cross-town school Father Lopez. The Bucs ended with a 5-0 win. Getting on the board was Sara Semler with 2 goals, and Gianna Corbin, Sierra Yusup, and Kassie Stoner each added a goal. Kassie Stoner had 2 assists, and Emma Agee had one assist. Cat Goodwin had just 1 save in the win last night. Great job by all the girls!

SGA is collecting travel size shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, razors, toothbrushes and new, unused socks for our homeless community. Please help out and drop off these items in the boxes located in the main office, activities office, student services and media center by tomorrow.

Congratulations to the Mainland wrestling team for placing 4th out of 16 teams on Friday. Sophomores Kaden Golder and Brian Harris and freshman Alexis Sutton each won their weight class. Freshman Matthew Deakin placed second, and freshmen Cheyenne Wigley and Sophomore Hayden Heilman each got 3rd. On Saturday, senior Devin Dorton placed 6th at the varsity tournament. Our last home match before break is Wednesday, December 16th at 7pm against Deltona. See you there!

The girls soccer team evened up their record last night with a 3-1 win over the Deltona wolves. Scoring for the Bucs were Isabella Castillo with 2 goals, with a team high 11 goals for the season, and Annabelle Dougherty with 1 goal. Adding in the assists were Annabelle Dougherty, Kassie Stoner, and Adrianna Harris with 1 assist a piece. Cathiann Goodwin allowed just one goal and made 4 saves in goal. The girls are 3-3 on the season and look to add to their record on Friday as they face Pierson Taylor away. Good job girls!

Congratulations to the Mainland Girls’ Wrestling team who won and took home the trophy from the Wiregrass open. Junior Aniya Dixon, Sophomore Avery Duffy, and freshman Alex Sutton each went undefeated and won their weight class. For the boys, senior Sean Baughman and junior Josh Rodgers also went undefeated.
