Chaz: Hello Mainland Buccaneers!  This is Mr. Mainland, Chaz Morel and with me, Miss Mainland Rachel Caridi.

 

Rachel:  Good morning! Today is Wednesday, November 8th and it is time to begin another awesome day here at Mainland High school!  To start off we will have one of our SGA members read us the weekly quote to keep us inspired and motivated throughout the week.

Angel:  Joining us today is a special guest, one of Mainland High School’s very own Junior ROTC squadron First Sergeant, Cadet Master Sergeant Destini Forman, she will be recognizing members and faculty of Mainland High School who have served our country.

Destini: IN OBSERVANCE OF VETERANS DAY, 11 NOVEMBER, PLEASE THANK THE FOLLOWING TEACHERS AND STAFF FOR PROUDLY SERVING IN OUR ARMED FORCES:

1      Lance Corporal Steven Bell who served 3 years in the US Marine Corps as a machine gunner in a small unit engaged in jungle warfare

 

2      Second Class Petty Officer Bishop who served 13 years as a corpsman in the US Navy

 

3      Sergeant First Class Daniel Carr who served 20 years in the US Army as a Broadcast Public Affairs Chief

 

4      Major Vern Conaway, who spent 33 years in the Army as a Transportation Officer for Mobilization and Deployment and is a Gulf War Vet

 

5      Petty Officer 3rd Class Francis who served 6 years in the navy as a nuclear engine room mechanic

 

6      MSgt Garthwaite who served 20 years in the Air Force in Explosive Ordnance Disposal

 

7      Specialist Griffin, who spent 5 years in the US Army as a line medic

 

8      Specialist Julian Gutierrez who is actively serving in the Army National Guard as a Black Hawk Mechanic

9      Corporal Kelleher who served 6 years in the US Marines in infantry

 

10    Specialist Lind who served 8 years in the Army National Guard as a combat engineer

 

11    Specialist Lugo who served 4 years in the US Army as a light wheel vehicle mechanic

 

12    Mr Manowskee who served 4 years in the US Air Force and 22 years in the Army  National Guard and is a Vietnam Vet.

 

13    Major Mil yee or ran zee who served 22 years in the US Air Force as a meteorologist and flight commander

 

14    First Soldier Ho say Santeeago-Booado, who spent 2 years in the Spanish Marines as a Royal Guard

Rachel:  Thank you AFJROTC for recognizing our faculty and staff who have served our country, and we look forward to seeing the Veterans Day ceremony held at 7AM tomorrow at the flag pole in front of the main office.

 

Chaz:  Now for some school announcements presented by members of SGA.

Briana: Attention Rotary and Key Club Members:  Mandatory meeting tomorrow in media center during lunch.  See Coach Burton with any questions.

 

Jana:  Seniors:  if you missed the cap and gown orders, Jostens will be back Tuesday 12/5 and Wednesday 12/6 during lunch in the Hall of History.  All seniors required to purchase the cap, gown and tassel package for $65.00.

Seniors can order cap and gown online at Jostens.com or call 1800Jostens.

Mark your calendars the class of 2018 group picture Monday 11/13 at 12:30PM in the gym.

 

Kacie:  Attention Seniors!  Graduation date is Friday, June 1st.  Graduation rehearsal will be on Wednesday, May 30th at 10:00am.

 

Angel:  Media Center will be closed today and tomorrow during lunch due to special events taking place.

 

Chaz:   Attention all Juniors and Seniors!  The Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep are holding their 10th Annual “Excellence in Education Challenge”.    Students can register for a chance to win a new laptop computer based on grades, attendance and school sponsored activities for entries.  At the end of the 2017-2018 school year, one student will drive away in a brand new 2018 vehicle.  Go to the main office for a registration form.

 

Rachel:  Attention all ASIM students: Your wreath fundraiser orders and money are due to Mrs. Mandell in room 1-116 by tomorrow, Thursday November 9th by the end of the day. Any questions, see Mrs. Mandell.

 

Jana:  Attention all students:  The Invest in Your Future Community Forum will take place Saturday, November 18 at Pine Ridge High School from 9 AM – 2 PM.  They have partnered with the United Negro College Fund to provide students and parents with valuable information regarding scholarship information and college financing.  Students can sign up to attend and will be entered into a raffle.  Refreshments and lunch will be provided.    

 

Angel: Listen up Juniors:

Are you interested in taking  a leadership role within your Academy????  The online application for the  Junior Academy Liaison Leaders is now available on the Mainland Website through Friday, November 17th.    Interested students……….please go to our  Web Page…….scroll down to News and view the Academy Liaison Leader Information & Application.  For any  additional information please contact Mrs. Gibson or any of our 9 Senior Liaison Leaders.

Angel: Now in sports news……

 

Jana:  Fellow Buccaneers, come out and Support your Mainland Bucs men’s and women’s basketball teams this Saturday, Nov. 11 @ 7:30 P.M.

at the Vince Carter Athletic Center!  Cost: $2.00 per entry OR donations of 16 oz. bottles of Gatorade, Granola Bars, or washing detergent.  Buc Pride…Never Dies!

 

Kacie:  Attention all athletes, and people who enjoy staying hydrated: The Athletic Training Department is selling Gatorade squeeze bottles for ONLY $5 in the Athletic Training Room 2-104 before school, Buc break and during lunch!

 

Rachel:  The game is being played this Friday at Municipal Stadium at 7:30 pm against Miami Norland High School.   Parking at the stadium is 5 dollars.  Tickets may be purchased in advance through the athletic director coach Monahan.  This is a state series game so passes are not accepted.   Tickets must be purchased at the state series price of 8 dollars.
