Broadcast Announcements 10/11/17

Chaz: Good morning! Today is Wednesday, October 11th and it is time to begin another wonderful day at Mainland High school!

Rachel: I’m Miss Mainland, Rachel Caridi.

Chaz: And I’m Mr. Mainland, Chaz Morel.

Angel: Hello Bucs! This is Angel from SGA! As you know we have a weekly inspirational quote. The purpose of the weekly quote is to bring different forms of motivation to the students and staff here at Mainland High school.

Monica: Here are some reminders for our Buccaneers:

Hanna: Make sure to get to class on time and avoid the dreaded Buc stop.

Genesis: Please help keep our beautiful campus clean by putting trash in its place. Shout out to our gca custodial staff on their award. Anything we can do to help them maintain the cleanliness of our huge campus-not an easy job!!

Angel: All ACT Prep scheduled for lab today, Wednesday, is postponed due to PSAT testing. See you next week

Chaz: All students need to have a Mainland ID. IDs may be purchased for $10 in bookkeeping and activities office before and after school or during lunch. Keep in mind you must have a school ID to be admitted to the Homecoming Dance.

Rachel: Everyone can make a difference at Mainland High school by keeping our school clean. Please keep up the great work by throwing out your trash throughout the day.

Monica: Did you miss the yearbook sale? Don’t fret, yearbooks are on sale now for $55 with personalization for $6 more and personality icons for $3 each. This sale only lasts until October 31st. See Mrs. Gardner in room 1-328 or Mrs. Venezia in bookkeeping.

Genesis: FFEA (Florida Future Educators of America) will have an interest meeting Wednesday during lunch in Ms. Frevel’s room 2-231.

Monica: Do you sing, dance, or have another amazing talent to share? Come audition for “Mainland’s Best Talent” TODAY, in the dance studio at 2:00PM! Acts will be selected from auditions to be in our Homecoming week talent show and the audience will vote for Mainland’s best talent of 2017! Acts should be performance ready at the audition and time limit is 3 minutes. The audition will start at 2:00PM in the dance studio located in the gym. Auditions are first come first serve, a list will be posted on the dance studio door on the backside of the gym to sign your act up. Solos and groups are welcome. If you have questions see Ms. Mahaffey. Bring your best and show us if you’ve got what it takes to be Mainland Best Talent TODAY at 2:00PM!

Hanna: Underclassman pictures today. Freshman will have pictures taken through their research class, sophomores and juniors will have their pictures through their English classes. If you do not have an English teacher please see Mrs. Gardner in room 1-328 for your appointment time and pass.

Angel: Drama Students: All students planning to perform in the District Thespian Festival must see Mr. Bell Today at lunch or after school to get registered for the event. Today is the deadline for auditions and registration.

All Enchanted Forest and Lilian Haunted House Cast members MUST meet with their directors after school TODAY to get scripts and schedules.

Cast members for all of the drama events should have gotten an informational letter from Mr. Bell through their first period teacher. If you did not receive one, see Mr. Bell, today. Café Noir Cast will rehearse after school today, as well.

Genesis: Free tutoring at DSC for SAT math every Saturday morning beginning October 14th through November 18th from 10:00am- 11:30am in Building 600, room 200. Registration is recommended. Be sure to email blankee@daytonastate.edu

Chaz: Junior class ring orders in hall of history during lunch, today, tues 10/17 and wed 10/18

Rachel: Together, we can make an impact to help the victims in Puerto Rico. For two weeks, Volusia County Schools will collect donations. If everyone at Mainland donated one dollar we could potentially collect over $2,000. Volusia county schools could potentially donate $70,000! Angel: What are your goals and dreams after graduating from Mainland and how can a laptop help you achieve them? The Daytona Dreamer Essay contest aims to highlight and reward 2 exceptional Mainland dreamers. From now until November 3rd, ALL MHS students can submit an essay for a chance to win an Aspire One Cloudbook. Monica: Attention students: Do you need volunteer hours? Longstreet Elementary is looking for volunteers for their upcoming Fall Festival on Friday Nov 3rd from 4:30-7:30pm. Stop by the resource room 1-238 to sign up or for more information.

Hanna: Now for some important dates for seniors:

Attention seniors: Mark your calendars! Graduation date is Friday, June 1st. Graduation rehearsal will be on Wednesday, May 30th at 10:00am.

Angel: SGA fundraiser all day this Friday at Sweet Frog at 1500 Beville road in the Publix plaza. Stop by at lunch, after school, before or after the game! A percentage will be donated back to the SGA so they can continue to support school and community events! Just let them know you’re there to support Mainland

Genesis: Seniors that are interested in getting help with FAFSA/scholarships/and college applications are invited to Miss Fuhrs room, 2-308, during lunch on Wednesday, October 11. Miss Fuhr and the seniors that are in AVID will be there to help you. Please bring your lunch.

Rachel: Senior cap and gown order dates are TODAY, Tuesday, October 17 and Wednesday, October 18.

Chaz: Free November SAT Registration and CSS Profile Fee Waiver for Hurricane Irma-Impacted Students. College Board will offer a free November SAT registration and a CSS Profile fee waiver. We understand this is a difficult time for those who are struggling as a result of the storm.

The free November SAT registration and CSS Profile fee waiver are for students who are experiencing hardship and/or displacement due to the hurricane and are in an area designated by FEMA. Please scroll down for the list of FEMA counties.

Students who are registered for the November SAT should call Customer Service to receive a refund of their registration and late fee. Students can register and contact Customer Service

through October 25. To reach Customer Service, please call 866-756-7346.

For the CSS Profile fee waiver, students should go to cssprofile.org, complete their application, and the system will automatically apply eligibility rules. To reach CSS Profile Customer Service, please call 844-202-0524.

Rachel: Now in sports news……

Angel: On Wednesday, Mainland Cross Country will be hosting a home meet with several local schools attending. Boys XC will be running at 4 and Girls Cross Country will be running at 440. Come out and support our runners as they give it their all!

Monica: Congratulations to the Mainland Volleyball Team for their victory last night against the Warner Christian Academy. Top performers were Asia Hubbert, Leeshel Gaines, Abby Rich and Morgan Mundell. Also a big shout out to our seniors: Schuyler Anderson, Kalisha Turner, Abby Rich and Morgan Mundell. Tonight the girls face their rival Seabreeze and it’s also Teacher Appreciation Night. We would love to see our faculty and staff in attendance to support our Buccaneers. Buc Pride Never Dies.

Hanna: Come out for mainland Boys’ Soccer tryouts in 2 weeks.

Hana: The Boy’s golf team had their best 18 hole match of the year in the 5-star championship. They improved 60 shots from the last 18 match. Out of Nine teams that were playing the Bucs beat Atlantic, Deland, Pine Ridge and Flagler Palm coast. Tyler Reese tied for 2nd place overall and senior Justin Vigo shot his best 18 hole score. Congratulations to the Buccaneer golfers. The team includes, Tyler Reese, Justin Vigo, Chappell Goodroe, Nick DeJulio, Nick Armour, Hunter Klein and Clay James also thanks for Assistant Coach Officer Ray for his valued help.

Genesis: Attention all athletes, and people who enjoy staying hydrated: The Athletic Training Department is selling Gatorade squeeze bottles for ONLY $5 in the Athletic Training Room 2-104 before school, Buc break and during lunch!

Angel: Now if you’re not into playing sports but don’t want to miss any of the action you can purchase a student athletic pass for only $35. This pass will get you entrance into all Mainland high school home games not including playoffs. You can cheer for your buccaneers and save money at the same time!

Hanna: And now, we have some important information to share about this year’s Homecoming!

Homecoming week begins Monday, October 16.

Monica: The theme is: Avatar: A Night in Pandora! Colors are blue, purple pink, and green. The dance is on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00pm – 12midnight. Tickets are $20 in advance and will go on sale beginning Monday, October 16. If you wait to purchase your ticket at the dance, it will cost you $25.00 and you could have a LONG wait in line! So, make sure to get your tickets starting Monday, October 16.

Hana: In order to purchase a ticket, ALL id/dues fees must be paid!

Angel: Shout out to Abigail Bennett for the ticket and flyer design and to Shania Forehand for the poster design.
