Chaz: Good morning! Today is Wednesday, September 27th and it is time to begin another wonderful day at Mainland High school!

Rachel: I’m Miss Mainland, Rachel Caridi.

Chaz: And I’m Mr. Mainland, Chaz Morel.

Ahmad: Hello Bucs! This is Ahmad from SGA! As you know we have a weekly inspirational quote. The purpose of the weekly quote is to bring different forms of motivation to the students and staff here at Mainland High school.

Schuyler: In recognition of Celebrate Freedom week, we will be reading an excerpt from the Declaration of Independence every day.

Jared: “We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

Chaz: Thank you Ahmad for that memorable quote and Jared for that excerpt from the Declaration of Independence.

Rachel: Here are some reminders for our Buccaneers:

Dress code policy: All students must wear a blue, gold, white, grey, or black collared polo or oxford-style shirt…

… and don’t forget your solid navy blue, black or tan pants, shorts, capris or jumpers including black or blue denim.

Shamiya: Tardy policy: After the final bell classroom doors will be locked and late students will be sent to BUC stop for the remainder of the period. Let’s just be punctual, who needs Buc stop?

Schuyler: All students need to have a Mainland ID. IDs may be purchased for $10 in bookkeeping and activities office before and after school or during lunch. Keep in mind you must have a school ID to be admitted to the Homecoming Dance.

Rachel: Everyone can make a difference at Mainland High school by keeping our school clean. Please keep up the great work by throwing out your trash throughout the day.

Chaz: The list has been growing daily. Over 30 students are signed up for College Application and Essay assistance. Bring your lunch and join us Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday to work on your applications in room 1-161 with Ms. Thompson

Ahmad: The Drama Department will be having try-outs for the following upcoming events: 1) The haunted ghost tours through a real historical and haunted house. 2) The enchanted Forest, featuring 5 minute versions of Shrek, Aladdin, and Rumplestiltskin, 3) Our one Act play, and 4) Our Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre. Auditions will be Thursday at Lunch and also Afterschool in the auditorium. Callbacks will be Friday after school in the auditorium. See Mr. Bell for more details.

Abby: Attention Buccaneers, if you are already a member or would like to join Rotary and Key club please attend our meeting during lunch in the media center this Friday, September 29th. Please bring your club dues with you to this meeting. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all!

Chaz: Society of Ethnic Engineering Bucs will be meeting Thursday during lunch room 2-134.

Rachel: ASIM’s annual blood drive will take place on Thursday, October 5th. There will be sign-ups in front of the hall of history during lunch on Friday, September 29th through Wednesday, October 4th for those who are 16 or older interested in donating. Be sure to specify your age for the correct paperwork, those who are 16 years old require parent consent waiver. Donate blood and save a life!

Shamiya: Did you miss the yearbook sale? Don’t fret, yearbooks are on sale now for $55 with personalization for $6 more and personality icons for $3 each. This sale only lasts until October 31st. See Mrs. Gardner in room 1-328 or Mrs. Venezia in bookkeeping.

Schuyler: Free tutoring at DSC for SAT math every Saturday morning beginning October 14th through November 18th from 10:00am- 11:30am in Building 600, room 200. Registration is recommended. Be sure to email blankee@daytonastate.edu

Ahmad: What are your goals and dreams after graduating from Mainland and how can a laptop help you achieve them? The Daytona Dreamer Essay contest aims to highlight and reward 2 exceptional Mainland dreamers. From now until November 3rd, ALL MHS students can submit an essay for a chance to win an Aspire One Cloudbook. The Daytona Dreamers essay contest is exclusively available to MHS students grades 9-12 regardless of GPA. For more information and to enter visit daytonadreamer.org

Abby: Now for some important dates for seniors:

Attention seniors: Mark your calendars! Graduation date is Friday, June 1st. Graduation rehearsal will be on Wednesday, May 30th at 10:00am.

Chaz: Monday October 2nd, there will be a cap and gown meeting with Jostens. The cap and gown order dates are Tuesday October 10th and Wednesday October 11th. All students are required to purchase the cap, gown, and tassel package for $65


Now in sports news……The boys bowling team lost a tough game to Seabreeze yesterday. The boys did have high games from Joseph Goodwin and Kory Driver. The girls bowling team fell to Seabreeze yesterday but had great performances from Cherish Lents, Alex Kilgore, Flora Kane and Anahndai Delaney.

Rachel: We have exciting news from our Swim Team! Mainland Swim team competed at the Spruce Creek Invitationals last Saturday Congratulations to New personal records:

* Christine Guest dropped 20 seconds in 100 yard freestyle

* Claudia Berthoin dropped 17 seconds in 500 yard freestyle

* Michaela Ziebell dropped 12 seconds in 100 yard backstroke

* Mariah Cowan dropped 8 seconds in 100 yard freestyle

* Blake Stevens dropped 30 seconds in 500 yard freestyle

* Cody Weber placed 7th overall in 100 yard Breaststroke

* Connor Case placed 4th overall in 200 yard freestyle

* Marina Pipenburg placed 9th over all for 500 yard freestyle

* Zach Scheuerman 8th place over all for 200 Individual Medley

Schuyler: Tomorrow, Thursday September 28th, Girls golf has a match against New Smyrna Beach at 4:00pm at Daytona Beach Golf course. Boys golf has an away match against New Smyrna. Good luck!

Ahmad: Make sure to cheer on our bowling team as they play Spruce Creek at 3:45 at Ormond Lanes tomorrow.

Abby: The volleyball team will be playing Pierson Taylor away tonight. Also be sure to support them as they take on New Smyrna Beach tomorrow night at home.

Chaz: Be there to watch JV football play Deltona at home tomorrow at 4:30. Varsity football will play Deltona away on Friday.

Rachel: Now if you’re not into playing sports but don’t want to miss any of the action you can purchase a student athletic pass for only $35. This pass will get you entrance into all Mainland high school home games not including playoffs. You can cheer for your buccaneers and save money at the same time!

Shamiya: Any other questions about athletics please see Mr. Monahan in the athletic director’s office located in the gym.

Chaz: And now, we have some important information to share about this year’s Homecoming!

Homecoming week begins Monday, October 16.

Homecoming Court Nominations are today and tomorrow during lunch in the courtyard. Any posters must be approved in the Activities Office. Senior voting for King and Queen will take place on Thursday, October 5 and Friday, October 6

Ahmad: The theme is: Avatar: A Night in Pandora! Colors are blue, purple pink, and green. The dance is on Saturday, October 21 from 8:00pm – 12midnight. Tickets are $20 in advance and will go on sale beginning Monday, October 16. If you wait to purchase your ticket at the dance, it will cost you $25.00 and you could have a LONG wait in line! So, make sure to get your tickets starting Monday, October 16.

Abby: In order to purchase a ticket, ALL id/dues fees must be paid!

Schuyler: The Homecoming Pep Rally is Thursday, October 19 at 6:00pm in our gymnasium. $2.00 admission fee or $1.00 if you show your current Mainland student id.

Spirit Days will be announced later this week.
